I recently returned home from my second trip to Australia for a conference put on by the DJAA. This year Beat Mix Australia took place on the beautiful Gold Coast.
The DJAA is a fabulous organization comprised of the most professional DJs and MCs from all over Australia and New Zealand. This year they teamed up with the Celebrant Institute for a fun and educational two days of learning and networking. The show’s mascots, Mildred and Muriel, were also there to remind all attendees to leave their egos at the door.
For Day 1 of the Beat Mix Australia conference, all of the attendees – DJs and Celebrants – were together for a full day of education. Serving as the opening keynote is an honor, and a fun way to have attendees speaking in color throughout the rest of the event!
DJs and Celebrants separated into different rooms on Day 2 for more focused educational content. There I was able to spend 90 minutes talking with the group in an open format. We discussed Toastmasters, storytelling techniques and so much more. A primary topic ways to connect better with clients, attendees, and bridal parties as an MC and as the one running the rehearsal.
On Day 3, nine especially dedicated event professionals spent a full 8 hours in an intense workshop. I led them on a deep dive into the concepts outlined in my latest book Color Me SMART.
In short, this trip was the perfect mix of business and pleasure. I was able to see beautiful beaches and do the most important touristy things.
